Spring is fast approaching, and whether you are selling your home now, planning to sell or simply want to keep your garden looking beautiful, there are some things you can do in the garden to prepare for the spring and summer months.
With the news that we can soon meet our friends and family outside in our gardens, now is the time to get your garden ready for entertaining. Along with giving your lawn and plants some attention, look at where you want to sit with friends and consider creating a warm cosy space. You could use outside rugs, soft furnishings such as waterproof cushions, comfortable seating and a dining or coffee table. You could also use a fire pit for warmth and light, fairy lights strung across fencing or trees and solar lights.
If you want to go a step further, it has been revealed in the latest research that a home garden office can boost the value of your home by as much as £12,000. The study from MyToolShed revealed that a good quality shed that can be used as an office or even another room such as a child’s chill out room can boost the value and appeal of your home if selling. An additional garden room is especially popular with families with teenagers as a place for the children to get away from it all.
Use compost filled containers with lillies to give your patio a gorgeous scent and to give it some colour in the summer. Consider Gold Band, Muscadet and Stargazer. Add some colour with forsythia and prune your rose bushes. Prune back summer flowering shrubs such as fuchsia and jasmine and remember, the lower they are cut the more they bloom. Make sure you use a balanced lawn fertiliser and spend some time mulching to save weeding later on. If you want to grow salad and rocket, use plastic window boxes. You could also try planting some asparagus crowns this month for a harvest in a year or two.
