Rightmove has reported that the start of 2021 has seen their busiest start to the year on record. Website visits between 2 January and 8 January were 30% higher than the same period in 2020.
In addition, the number of potential buyers contacting estate agents is 11% higher than the first week of 2020 and the number of people looking to rent a property is up by 22%.
This indicates that for those considering putting their property on the market there are keen buyers out there and we are still seeing a disparity between supply and demand with not enough good quality homes available for sale which in turn pushes up prices.
The LBTT holiday deadline is approaching and with new lockdowns announced across Scotland with even tighter restrictions from Saturday January 16th don’t seem to have dampened activity in the market across all regions in the UK.
Rightmove stated: “January is usually one of our busiest months of the year as people start to make new year plans to move, as was the case at the start of last year when we also had the post-election bounce that gave hope of an active spring market, before that all changed with the temporary closure from March until May.
“We didn’t know how this year would start with so much change and uncertainty around restrictions, but it’s been reassuring for those people hoping or needing to move that the demand we’ve seen so far is the highest we’ve ever had in January.”
