Each and every month, there are hundreds of exciting events taking place in and around East Renfrewshire. We’re always spoilt for choice in this neck of the woods, even more so during in the run up to Christmas and New Year—though it is hard to keep track of what’s happening at this time of year. To make life easier, we’ve picked a few of our favourite events happening locally in December with the help of What’s on East Renfrewshire.
Christmas Craft Fair
If you’re loath to negotiate the huge crowds on Buchanan Street in an attempt to do your shopping, the Christmas Craft Fair at Windlee Windfarm in Eaglesham will make for an enjoyable and more relaxing alternative.
Taking place this Saturday, 2nd December, from 11am – 3pm, the inaugural Christmas Fair will host a variety of local crafters selling their beautiful handmade gifts. There will also be lots of free activities for the kids, too, including festive craft activities and a chance to meet St Nick and his elves in Santa’s Grotto!
Eastwood Park Theatre Events
Giffnock’s Eastwood Park Theatre has another fantastic festive programme of events for us this December, including Eastwood Entertainers’ annual pantomime, ‘Sleeping Beauty’ (until Dec. 2nd); a live radio version of ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’, with a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie (Dec. 9th); a pantomime production of ‘Aladdin’ (Dec. 11th-16th); the Christmas Crafty Textiles workshop (Dec. 20th); and a whole host of classic festive movies showing throughout the month, including Elf, The Grinch, Home Alone, and The Muppets.
Maxwell’s Christmas Gin Tasting
Hosted by Maxwell’s Clarkston, enjoy a great evening of Christmas Gin Tasting at Clarkston Hall on Friday 8th December. You will have the opportunity to taste a number of premium gins and learn about the various botanicals from the Brand Ambassadors. A great way to relax after a busy week—and maybe you’ll also find the perfect gin to enjoy over the holidays!
East Renfrewshire Bookbug Sessions
Bookbug Sessions is a national programme of interactive classes that encourages parents to share and enjoy books with their children. Held daily at various library locations throughout East Renfrewshire—including Clarkston, Eaglesham, Giffnock, and Mearns—Bookbug Sessions use simple rhymes, songs and games to introduce music to children aged 0-4. The events are free and extremely popular!
Elf Academy
Back by popular demand, Elf Academy returns to East Renfrewshire once more! Taking place on Dec. 16th, 17th, and 22nd at Eastwood Park Theatre, and Dec. 23rd at Clarkston Halls, the kids will have the most fantastic time making Christmas crafts, baking, listening to wintery tales, enjoying a festive film, and graduating from Elf Academy with their very own Elf ears! As you can imagine, it’s very popular, so best to book quickly.
Tennis for Free
If you’re looking for a way to stay fit this winter, Barrhead Community Tennis Club is offering free weekly tennis sessions for East Renfrewshire residents. A great way to spend a Saturday afternoon with family or make new friends, and it’s never too late to learn a new sport! Sessions are led by local coaches, equipment is provided free of charge, and all levels are catered for.
