According to Anglian Home Improvements, creating more open plan living spaces in your home and converting your loft will add the most value to your home. However, when surveyed, only 2% of respondents believed that open plan living would add the most value to their home.
Here’s a breakdown of the home improvements that will add the most value to your home, and the average figure of just how much they will add:
Open plan living spaces: £46,504
Loft conversion: £24,2555
Extension: £6,454
New kitchen: £3,509
Conservatory: £3,155
Let’s compare this to the value that those surveyed think home improvements will add:
Extension: 27%
New kitchen: 25%
Loft conversion: 15%
New windows: 8%
New front door: 7%
As you can see, there’s a real iPost Office Money also carried out a survey recently and found that the most popular motivations behind home improvements were to add value to their property. The survey found that only 5% of people had carried out home improvements because they wanted to move in the near future.
Over the past few years here in East Renfrewshire we have found that house prices have been strong compared to the rest of the UK, especially in the face of Brexit uncertainty. However, with school places adding a premium to many homes here in East Ren and competition for family homes remaining high, many have chosen to improve rather than move, and waited until their children have either left school or their school place is secure to move. Many homes we sell have extensions, loft conversions and additional space created to avoid having to move – and this is why we have so many fabulous family homes for sale in the area.
We have several homes for sale that have been significantly upgraded and these improvements have added significant value.
