East Renfrewshire Schools Dominate The Times School League Tables Again Posted: 22nd June 2022

The Times has just released the Scotland School League Table showing that this year, two of East Renfrewshire’s schools – Williamwood High School and St. Ninian’s High School – are in the top 10. Woodfarm High School, Eastwood High School and Mearns Castle High School appear at positions 12th, 13th and 14th respectively. This means that East Renfrewshire schools account for 25% of the top 20 schools in Scotland.

Jordanhill in Glasgow is the best-performing Scottish state school for the sixth year running and is Scotland’s only state school free of council control. As a result of the league tables, according to The Times, houses near Scotland’s stop performing schools cost up to £166,000 more than the council average.

The league table also revealed that the attainment gap between the central belt and Scotland’s rural fringes has doubled despite the Government’s aim to close the gap by 2026

St Ninian’s High School appears in third place educating 78 per cent of pupils to the gold standard of five highers, and Williamwood High School appeared in fifth reaching 77 per cent.

It is worth noting that the The Times Scotland High School League Table does not rank schools from best to worst, just the percentage of pupils that have attained Nicola Sturgeon’s “gold standard” of five Highers, or equivalent, in 2021.

Highers were awarded without exams for the second year in a row last year. Exams resumed this summer.
