We offer you a round up of what is happening in our lovely neck of the woods, as the cold sets in and the nights get darker and we head into the festive season, thanks to What’s On East Renfrewshire.

Legally Blonde the Musical

A fabulously fun, award-winning musical based on the adored movie! The stage adaptation of this Reese Witherspoon classic comedy from the early 2000s comes to Eastwood Park Theatre this November. A hilarious story of self-discovery, the heartbroken blonde sets to win her man back but instead proves everyone wrong, taking Harvard Law School by storm and teaching all to never judge a book by its cover! Set to catchy tunes and energetic dancing, it’s a show that’s both hilarious and heart-warming.

When: 16 November 2016 – 19 November 2016, 7:30pm & 2:30pm (Saturday matinee)

Cheese and Wine Festival

A decadent evening of sampling at Wholefoods Market! Discover your favourites, picking from a selection of over 35 wines, including new and old world wines and organic varieties. The Wholefoods expert team will be on hand to help match your preferred grape to a wide selection of cheeses in the deli – from brie, gruyere and blue varieties, and many more! There will also be a selection of their most popular spirits to try a tipple of too. Grab a glass from the Customer Service team then visit the tasting stations throughout the store.

10 Week Spanish Course for Adults

Wondering what to do with the long winter nights? Why not start something new and learn to speak Spanish! A 10 week block of classes begins this November (with a month off over Christmas) at Williamwood High School and Clarkston Hall. Courses lead by a Spanish native speaker and qualified lecturer. Charity Antiques Valuation Day

Fans of Bargain Hunt, Flog It and Antiques Road Trip won’t want to miss this charity event organised by Eastwood Rotary and in aid of The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice. Ever wondered if those air looms in the attic are rare pieces worth thousands? Bring along your treasures and up to two items per person will be valued by the team at Great Western Auctions, lead by none other than antiques expert and TV personality Anita Manning! Added tea, coffee and cake too.

When: 28 November 2016, 10am – 3pm

Where: Whitecraigs Golf Club, Newton Mearns

Christmas Lights Switch On

Make a festive afternoon of it and get into the Christmas spirit at the second annual Big Barrhead Christmas Lights Switch On, organised by Barrhead Business Improvement District. Before the light switch on, there will be funfair rides, a festive market, street entertainment, live music and of course Santa will be there to hear the kids Christmas wishes at Santa’s Grotto! Plus this year there is an added fireworks finale at 5:30pm, after the big switch on. Main viewing for the fireworks will be in front of Asda and Barrhead Foundry.

Winterfest Creative Workshops

A series of creative workshops inspired by the season is on offer at Eastwood Park Theatre throughout December. Learn new craft skills, from sewing techniques and Christmas textiles to homemade tree decorations. Make your own festive wreath that you can cherish and reuse each year or take a turn at linoprint and print your own gift wrap, cards and tags. A winter wildlife and nature photography session will help you hone your camera skills too! Suitable for age 16+ or 12+ if accompanied by an adult.

Elf Academy

Become an honorary Santa’s little helper at Elf Academy! Kids will love this series of creative and fun activities at this jam-packed session. Make Christmas crafts, bake with Mrs Claus, join in with a wintery tale read by a special guest and enjoy a festive film before graduating from Elf Academy with your very own Elf ears! The perfect way to get them even more excited for Christmas!
