Broom Church, Newton Mearns. Open to All! Posted: 26th November 2018

Broom Church is one of the hubs of our community and has become a place for people young and old to take part in weekly and annual community activities. In addition, people of all faiths can hire the church hall for any event or family celebration. Located on the junction of Broom Road East and Mearns Road, it is placed at the heart of the Community in Newton Mearns. In fact, around 800 people pass through the doors each week using the fabulous halls and facilities.

Weekly activities

Each week the following activities are held at the hall:

  • Broom Nursery pre school learning facility
  • Rainbows, Brownies and Guides ages 5- 18
  • Slimming World
  • Dance exercise
  • Junior and adult yoga
  • Stagecoach theatre and drama classes
  • Universal Pentecostal Church
  • Maths tuition
  • Little Kicks football training
  • Music tuition
  • Card and craft group
  • Mother and toddlers groups

A wide variety of hires are available for all family occasions with excellent facilities including a fully equipped kitchen and full toilet facilities in the Columba Hall which is separate to the main church building.

Church services

Weekly Church Services are held each Sunday at 10am with a tea and coffee break held afterwards. In addition, the Sunday Club for young people is available for children from birth upwards with a creche facility available)

There is also a Wednesday Break short service at 10.30am with tea and coffee served in the Columba Hall – all are welcome for a chat and get together!

Annual events

There are several annual events at Broom Church, including:

  • Easter Services and Easteringle, an action packed service hosted by our young people with free Easter eggs for all.
  • Christmas Fair
  • Reflections Service this Sunday 2nd December 6.30pm. This is a short reflective service with an opportunity to light a candle for a loved one and get together over tea and coffee afterwards.
  • Nativity Service hosted by our young people.
  • East Renfrewshire Schools Concert, Tuesday 11th December. This is an event whereby all local schools showcase their musical talents and entertain us with Christmas and seasonal songs with complimentary hospitality
  • Christingle Christmas Carol Service Wednesday 19th December at 6.30pm. Christingle Candles are given out to all in attendance and we sing Carols by Candelight. There’s also complimentary hospitality afterwards – this is a truly magical experience!

Supporting charity

Broom Church supports several charities and has a large committee of Elders who actively fundraise and support other organizations at home and around the world. We are also in Partnership with East Renfrewshire Good Causes.
