Interior design can help not only improve the appeal of your property, but it can also add a surprising amount of value. In fact, mortgage comparison website Bankrate carried out a new study to find out exactly how much interior design trends can add to you the value of your home.
Bankrate entered the most popular interior design styles into the Zoopla property search to calculate average house prices for each style. The ever-popular clean Scandi style came out top for 2020 but take a look at the other styles that can add value to your home in order with Scandi being the most popular:
Top of the list is Scandanavian – an interior design style that never loses appeal – with its clean lines, warm natural textures, streamlined furniture and natural colours it is an easy and inexpensive trend to use in your home especially with stores such as Ikea giving you plenty of ideas in the Scandi style. Make sure your home is decluttered with white walls and natural flooring and fibres to achieve this style.
Post lockdown searches for ‘farmhouse’ was up by 50% post-lockdown as this style is becoming increasingly popular. From cosy fireplaces to rustic beams and natural textures, a farmhouse style of decor is increasingly popular especially as rural living is having a resurgence of popularity this year due to the pandemic.
Rustic home décor is also worth considering if you want to boost the value of your home before selling. Re use or upcycle old furniture, add some cosy soft furnishings, flowers, pants and accessories to give your property a homely and welcoming feel that buyers appear to be craving this year.
Bohemian interior design may not be as popular as the Scandi or rustic styles, but this quirky style could still add value to your property according to the study.
This is a much-loved trend especially as we are all becoming more eco conscious. Consider sites such as Vinterior or eBay for antique pieces or take a look at some of the online furniture and soft furnishings retailers for vintage style interiors. Facebook marketplace, car boot sales and Gumtree are also great places to pick up a bargain vintage piece for your home.
Smart, modern homes are always in demand and there are many retailers specialising in clean, contemporary furniture including Made.com, Swoon, Cox & Cox along with the large high street retailers.
Since the popularity of the series Mad Men this style has seen a resurgence with 50s style furniture and finishings, retro patterns and block colours extremely popular especially in more modern buildings.
Although this trend was further down in popularity it can still add a good amount of value to your home especially as this interior design can highlight the available space and light in your home. Think clean, clutter free and simple – what’s more it can be applied to any property type.
Although this took the ninth spot, this is still a look to consider when re decorating. This style can be achieved with open brickwork, loft style flooring, exposed metal, a mix of finishes including silver, brass and copper, and mechanical details.
Last but not least is the more traditional interior style which will still add value to your home. This is a comfortable and cosy style that will make any potential buyer feel welcome as soon as they walk into the property.
