There’s so much to see and do here in Glasgow and East Renfrewshire – it’s one of the reasons that it was announced as the Happiest Place to Live! Whatever age your children, there are some great events on locally and in the city centre. We’ve taken a look at what’s on to give you an idea of what you can do to make sure your kids don’t get cabin fever whatever the weather:
Your local library
There are some fantastic events planned the East Renfrewshire local libraries. What’s more, they are free to attend – just call the library to book. Here are some of the events you can go to:
Barrhead Foundry Library – Tuesday 2nd April 10.30am – 11.30am. Bring your basket for a cracking hour of egg hunting and decorating.
Neilston Library – Wednesday 3rd April 11am – Midday. Hop to it and create a mask bursting with bunny cuteness.
Thornliebank Library – Wednesday 3rd April 2.30pm – 3.30pm. Paint a pot, plant a seed. Water it, and watch it grow.
Busby Library Friday 5th April 11am – Midday. Hop down to the library and make a spring themed whirligig to spin in the season.
Mearns Library Wednesday 10th April 2pm – 3pm. Hop to it and create a mask bursting with bunny cuteness.
Giffnock Library Wednesday 10th April 11am – Midday. Paint a pot, plant a seed. Water it, and watch it grow.
Clarkston Library Thursday 11th April 11am – Midday. Crack on with our cute chick craft.
Eaglesham Library Friday 12th April 11am – Midday. You know how the caterpillar grows, now make your own and watch it grow.
You Choose – A different story in every show!
Wednesday 3rd April, 2pm and 4pm.
Based on the brilliant book by Pippa Goodhart and Nick Sharratt, You Choose, this event is a brand new interactive musical show for all the family. The difference is that in this show, you choose what happens! Using the picture book as inspiration and through a series of games and challenges each show will come up with a unique story, with different characters every time. Find out more and book tickets.
Easter’s Eggciting Event
Join the Dams to Darnley Countryside Rangers for their annual Easter event… decorate some eggs and then going on an egg hunt round the park! Booking required and appropriate clothing is required. This event is free. Meet at the World Buffet restaurant car park, Corselet Road, Darnley G53 7RN. Find out more and book.
Amphibian Amore
Bring your wellies and a torch and go spy on some of Whitelee’s amphibians with the Whitelee Countryside Rangers! Hop with us to our ponds in search of our elusive pond dwelling species like frogs, newts and toads. This event is provided by the Whitelee countryside Ranger Service and is free. Family Films at Eastwood Park Theatre
Come along to Eastwood Park Theatre for a special screening of some classic family films!
Sunday 20th January: Paddington 2
Starts 10.30am. Paddington is happily settled with the Brown family in Windsor Gardens, where he has become a popular member of the community, spreading joy and marmalade wherever he goes. While searching for the perfect present for his beloved Aunt Lucy’s 100th birthday, Paddington spots a unique pop-up book in Mr. Gruber’s antique shop, and embarks upon a series of odd jobs to buy it. But when the book is stolen, it’s up to Paddington and the Browns to unmask the thief.
Saturday 2nd February: Grease Sing-a-long
Starts 2pm. A musical about teens in love in the 50’s! It’s California 1959 and greaser Danny Zuko and Australian Sandy Olsson are in love. They spend time at the beach, and when they go back to school, what neither of them knows is that they both now attend Rydell High. Danny’s the leader of the T-Birds, a group of black leather jacket-wearing greasers while Sandy hangs with the Pink Ladies, a group of pink-wearing girls led by Rizzo. When they clash at Rydell’s first pep rally, Danny isn’t the same Danny from the beach. They try to be like each other so they can be together
Saturday 9th March: Coco
Starts 10.30am. Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz. Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector, and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.
Saturday 13th April: Hop
Starts 10.30am. Blending state-of-the-art animation with live action, Hop tells the comic tale of Fred, an out-of-work slacker who accidentally injures the Easter Bunny and must take him in as he recovers. As Fred struggles with the world’s worst house guest, both will learn what it takes to finally grow up.
Sunday 21st April: The Sound of Music
Starts 2pm. In 1930’s Austria, a young woman named Maria is failing miserably in her attempts to become a nun. When the Navy captain Georg Von Trapp writes to the convent asking for a governess that can handle his seven mischievous children, Maria is given the job. The Captain’s wife is dead, and he is often away, and runs the household as strictly as he does the ships he sails on. The children are unhappy and resentful of the governesses that their father keeps hiring, and have managed to run each of them off one by one. When Maria arrives, she is initially met with the same hostility, but her kindness, understanding, and sense of fun soon draws them to her and brings some much-needed joy into all their lives — including the Captain’s. Eventually he and Maria find themselves falling in love, even though Georg is already engaged to a Baroness and Maria is still a postulant. The romance makes them both start questioning the decisions they have made.

The Little Mix Experience
They look like Little Mix, they sound like Little Mix, they are The Little Mix Experience! Catch them at Eastwood Park Theatre on Sunday 14th April. Four hugely talented girls pay tribute to Little Mix with breathtaking dance moves, replica costumes and some of the finest vocals in the UK, this is a high energy show from beginning to end, packed with all of Little Mix’s greatest hits and suitable for all ages. Inflatable Fun City
The amazing Inflatable Fun City is returning to Glasgow Green for the Easter holidays between 30th March and 14th April plus the 19th to the 22nd April midday to 6pm. Suitable for 2 – 12 year olds, adults cannot take part! Don’t forget to bring extra socks and clothes if it’s wet. Hot food, cold drinks and other refreshments are available on site. There are also prize winning stalls and games to be played too. This is a cash only event so don’t rely on using a card for payments. The RSPB at Kelvingrove
You’ll find RSPB Scotland holding family friendly events most weekends and during the school holidays at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum! Kelvingrove is a hub for the RSPBs’ ‘Giving Nature a Home in Glasgow’ project. Family events are held every weekend in the Wildlife Galleries. Explore various wildlife themes and join in craft activities and trails.
Saturday 26 January and Sunday 27 January: The Dinosaurs in your back Garden – Big Garden Birdwatch
Is it a bird or a tiny dinosaur?! Join RSPB Scotland to explore how birds and dinosaurs are linked and take part in the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch. Contact Anna Pattison for more information. 1pm – 4pm. Price: Suggested Donation: £1.

Sunday 28 April: Dippy: Nature Discovery Day
As part of City Nature Challenge 2019, join Glasgow Museums, RSPB Scotland and a range of other partners to discover and record the amazing local wildlife and see how it has changed over time. There will be walks and talks and fun activities to take part on the day looking back at how the area has changed over time, as we race against the clock to record all the wildlife we can. 1pm – 4pm.
